Kraken Mega E-House

Kraken Field Development
Armada Kraken FPSO Project – Mega E-House

We were awarded the EPC Contract by Bumi Armada / ABB Singapore for the designing and building of the E-House for the floating, production, storage and offloading vessel (FPSO Armada Kraken) operating in the Kraken oil field, the biggest subsea oilfield project in the British North Sea.

  • Weighing more than 1,560 tonnes at load out, we believe that this is the first mega E-House to be built in Singapore. As it is a harsh-environment FPSO operating in the British North Sea, one of the toughest operating environments in the world, it is designed to very stringent standards and requirements, including the UKCS, EEMUA and DNV standards. Despite the size and complexity, it was completed in 13 months from the signing of the contract to the commissioning and loud out of the E-house.
  • The E-House has a built in area of 2,100 m2 / 21,600 sqft, and contains the FPSO’s electrification and automation systems, including medium and low voltage switchgears, transformers, variable frequency drives (VFD), uninterrupted power systems (UPS), integrated control and safety systems (ICSS), fire and gas systems (FGS), electrical monitoring and control systems, distribution boards, Unit Control Panel, VESDA System, HVAC system and Inergen Fire Suppression System.
  • The size and complexity of the E-house meant that the interior of the E-House contained approximately 85,000 metres of cables, which has yet to include the complicated customer interface cables leading from the exterior of the E-house. Approximately 20% of the cables are medium voltage cables for the MV transformer, MV switchgears and VFD panel connections. All cables are fire retardant and fire resistant to IEC standards.
  • To support the large number of cables, approximately 7,000 metres of SS316L cable ladders and cable trays were installed in the E-House. To facilitate safety and movement within the interior, most of the cable supports and cables were installed under the 1.5m high raised floor.
  • The E-House is provided with 2x100% HVAC System having cooling capacity of 400kW. The HVAC provided are suitable for Class 1 Zone 2 Hazardous Area.
  • The FPSO vessel is owned by Bumi Armada Berhad, a Malaysia-based international offshore oilfield services provider who is one of the largest FPSO player in the world and an established offshore supply vessel owner and operator across Asia, Africa and Australia. The FPSO is chartered to EnQuest, an independent oil and gas development and production company based in the United Kingdoms.
